Exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of the ESMC Museum and a new temporary exhibition: Aviation Pioneers in the Trois-Lacs Region
The new temporary exhibition ‘Aviation Pioneers in the Three-Lakes Region’ is taking centre stage. The area around Murten was one of the true birthplaces of Swiss aviation in the 1910s. Figures such as Ernest Failloubaz, known as ‘the flying boy’, René Grandjean, Charles Favre and Georges Cailler left their mark on this era through their courage, technical skill and pioneering spirit. René Grandjean deserves a special mention: he was the first to design an aeroplane that could be fitted with skis, wheels and floats. These flying machines were created using very simple yet sophisticated methods, and with the local support of blacksmiths and wheelwrights.
At the same time, the anniversary exhibition “10 Years of ESMC” looks back at the museum’s development. The story is brought to life through press releases and insights into past themed exhibitions at DasDepot. The themes of recent temporary exhibitions, such as the Stedli traffic, muscle power, wood fuel and the pioneers of motor vehicles within a 30-kilometre radius of Murten, are presented using archive photographs and related objects. The ‘Collection’ section is a new addition. Like a display warehouse, it showcases special items from the collection activities of recent years, many of which are also donations from visitors.
