A few days before the grand premiere, a stroke of fate puts the theatre troupe out of action. It is impossible to take to the stage!
In an emergency, replacement actors are called in, but with so little time to prepare, they arrive on the eve of the performance far from ready.
Their challenge? To perform a play set at the end of the 19th century, where the baroness de Bonpoil, a widow and almost ruined, dreams of restoring her family's prestige by arranging the marriage of her son Romain to Hortense, the daughter of Count de Labrosse.
But the real drama does not unfold in the plot, oh no...
On the day of the premiere, everything goes awry. The unforeseen events arrive with fanfare and the clumsy actors flounder in an avalanche of disasters.
