Have a walk through the smallest city of Europe and discover its history and monuments.
The walk lasts about 1 hour.
A marked route takes you to discover the medieval town of Rue. The brochure "Historical Walks" is available at the Romont Tourist Office and its region, at the Commune of Rue, and in certain restaurants in the area, and will complement your visit with some explanations about the monuments as well as a small quiz.
The village of Rue is built at the foot of a rocky spur on which a castle stands, the seat of the local lords. Located on the road leading from Lake Geneva to Moudon and Avenches, Rue is also a crossroads leading to Romont. The first mentions of the medieval fortress date back to 1152 and the village was founded by Peter II of Savoy around 1264. The Savoyards occupied the site until the annexation of the region by Fribourg in 1536, at the same time as the locality of Romont. Rue was the first capital of the district of Glâne.
