This stage takes you deep into the reeds that characterise the landscape of the Grande Cariçaie. Enjoy water sports on the New Beach in Estavayer-le-Lac or bathing in Portalban.
Before you set off, allow time to visit Estavayer-le-Lac, “the city of the Rose” founded in 1470, with its narrow, paved streets and impressive castle. Explore the biggest lakeside wetland (or “Grosses Moos”) in Switzerland, the Grande Cariçaie, all along the path to Portalban via Chevroux. Along the way, children will be enchanted to spot the numerous aquatic animals hidden in the band of reed beds at the water’s edge. The beach in Portalban, with its vast stretch of sand and grass, is particularly popular with families.
Tip: as well as a popular centre for water sports, particularly wakeboarding, Estavayer-le-Lac is also an exceptional mediaeval town.
