During September and October, the Alpine cattle descent (in French “Désalpe”) is the best-known of all traditional mountain festivities. After more than four months of grazing in alpine pastures, cows make their way down to the plain.
You will see the “armaillis” dressed in “bredzons” and their ladies in “dzaquillons”. As for the cows, thundering bells will be hanging from their necks and brightly couloured flowers on their heads. There will be a parade, traditional music and a market with local products among other things. The main Alpine cattle descents of the region take place in Semsales, Charmey, Schwarzsee and Albeuve.
