Narrative cabaret at its best
He was awarded the "Prix Cornichon" at the Olten Cabaret Days in May 2024, the highest honour in Swiss humour, and since January 2025 he has been presenting his new programme "Bänz Friedli tidies up" to sold-out audiences, sometimes thought-provoking, sometimes hilarious. And always topical! "It's hard to believe, but Bänz Friedli is actually getting even better," wrote Manfred Papst in the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper.
With elements of stand-up, satire and readings, Friedli has created his very own style: narrative cabaret, radically political and radically personal. In his sixth solo programme, the dialect virtuoso and persifleur unleashes all his skills. He comes across surprising finds from his own childhood, tries to make sense of the present in a dialogue with his grandmother and a future granddaughter and looks to the future. How do we manage to remain confident in gloomy times?
Together with director Alexander Götz, Friedli has created an evening of theatre that departs from the usual comedy mould and in which the audience can free themselves from the worries of everyday life by laughing at these very worries.
"When it comes to satire and cabaret, he is quite simply 'the master'", is how comedienne Jane Mumford described Friedli, and for old master Emil: "In Switzerland, Bänz is simply the best!"
