In Gaelic, ‘Táin’ means ‘raid’. And Táin’s concerts do feel a bit like a raid – though a raid in the best possible sense.
Without wasting many words, the four musicians plunge into the world of Irish and Scottish tunes with boundless energy and virtuosity, instantly sweeping the audience along with them. The melodies, often handed down through many generations, have something magical about them. They resonate with joie de vivre and lightness, yet are also seasoned with a pinch of longing and melancholy. The songs embody the vastness we experience whilst standing on cliffs, allowing us to feel the power of stormy sea winds and the wild nature of the Highlands. Thom Freiburghaus and Louise Gillman play enchanting melodies on various bagpipes, flutes and the violin, Mirjam Gosteli spices them up with fiery percussion, and Silas Bitterli frames them with powerful guitar and, at times, his unique voice. It is a musical experience of a very special kind. One that fills you with joy and tempts you to dance. And stirs the desire to buy a train ticket to the north straight away. Or to attend the next concert that will transport you there. www.tain.ch Admission: CHF 30.– / CHF 20.– (Culture Association members)
