The National Equestrian Institute of Avenches (IENA), located at the gateway to Avenches near Lake Morat, is a sports complex that combines racing and various equestrian disciplines. Open to the public, the IENA invites visitors to watch horse races, enjoy a meal at the restaurant "Le Paddock," or take part in a guided tour upon request.
Established in 1999, the National Equestrian Institute of Avenches is situated close to the Swiss National Stud and not far from the ancient Roman city. For training and competitions in equestrian disciplines, the IENA features three racetracks, multiple fields, arenas, and paddocks, spread over approximately 142 hectares.
Whether they are experts or enthusiasts, many fans of the equestrian world flock to IENA to witness about thirty competitions held annually, including trotting races, speed racing, show jumping, dressage, and pony races. The IENA pony school, designed for children aged 9 to 16 who wish to learn this sport in close contact with the animals, offers several classes each week.
The IENA's restaurant, "Le Paddock," open daily, serves both individuals and groups, and guided tours of the institute are available on request."
