Cluny paths
In 1080 the two wealthy brothers Geraldus and Rudolfus donated part of their property to Cluny Monastery. A little later the Villarium monachorum priory was founded in Münchenwiler. Around 1484/1486 the Münchenwiler monastery reached the St. Vincent abbey in Bern through a pope bull and became a much sought-after one. The Reformation was introduced in 1530 - the priory became a Renaissance palace, later a baroque manor, and a country house in the 19th century. In 1943 the canton of Bern bought the castle. With the total renovation in the 80s, a modern seminar center with hotel and restaurant was created. The renovations have brought to light astonishing things, such as the choir and the transept with the Romanesque church with the crossing tower. The south and east wings of the monastery are preserved on two floors, with the chapter house and the southern part of the cloister in the form of a loggia. From the castle courtyard, where the main nave used to be, you can see the approach of the three naves of the former church on the west facade of the transept.
The picturesque Zähringer town of Murten and the Roman town of Avenches are nearby and have always enchanted visitors.
The castle restaurant is open every day except on Sunday evening.
