3 km south of Murten is the landmark of Münchenwiler, the castle of Münchenwiler.
This historic gem has been transformed into a hotel and hosts each year numerous seminars and individual tourists.

History of the castle Münchenwiler:
1081 The brothers of Vilar bequeath all their possessions to Cluny Monastery for sins, as stated in the deed of donation. Cluny establishes a priory.
1485 The Pope separates Münchenwiler from Cluny and places it under the control of the St. Vincent Monastery in Bern.
1668 After various changes of ownership, Anton von Graffenried acquires the castle and dominion. The dominion remained in his family until 1798, the castle until 1932.
1943 The state of Bern buys back the dilapidated castle with its turnaround. The castle accommodates the private lessons of military education and serves as troop accommodation.
1984 The Bern Adult Education Association succeeds as operator of the course centre.
1986 to 1990 Conversion and renovation of the castle and church, as well as extension with a guest house. Reopening as further education centre.
2002 The Parkhotel Schloss Münchenwiler AG transforms the training centre into a hotel. Investments in infrastructure make it possible to run Schloss Münchenwiler from now on as a hotel with restaurant, seminar, banquet and culture.
2012 The Canton of Berne (AGG) leases the entire Schloss Münchenwiler complex to Schloss Münchenwiler GmbH by Brigit Leicht and Heinz Blattmann.
Since January 2020, the company Andalo GmbH, based in Brunnen, is the new tenant.
