Musical Theater—Condensed and Transformed
Lucia Schneider-Menz and Julia Schiwowa founded the duo ‘menze&schiwowa’ in 2018. In their second joint programme, they sing and perform Bavarian, High German and Swiss German scenes, accompanied by puppets with moving mouths.
Sometimes the puppets perform, sometimes the performers play the roles of the puppets; sometimes the puppets play music, sometimes the music is played through the puppets. A witty, original, profound and cheeky stage production featuring singing, piano, cello and ventriloquist puppets.
At the heart of the production are the songs, which – tender, rousing, groovy and hilarious – transport the audience through often unfamiliar sounds into a variety of emotional worlds. Time and again, the audience is left in awe as the quirky, cheeky puppets merge with the music, the lyrics and the puppeteers. The audience is left spellbound and smiling as they try to guess who is actually playing what, with which hand and when. Together, the four of them try, in a humorous way, to set up a Zoom call, grasp stardust or catch dreamworms.
A play full of whimsical, philosophical and poetic mind games centred on our times and the desire to make sense of life.
‘Who Would Have Thought It?’ was developed in co-production with the Winterthur Puppet Theatre and Kulturraum Thalwil.
