Swiss public transport companies endeavour to facilitate transport for handicapped people. Increasingly, stations and trains are equipped with lifts, ramps and WCs that are accessible with wheel-chairs.
Train
Travellers in wheel-chairs can take the train if their chairs are not over 70 cm wide, 120 cm long and 109 cm high. An hour before the train’s departure, simply call the SBB Call Center Handicap freephone 800 007 102 from Switzerland (free) or +41 51 225 78 44 if you are calling from abroad. You should go to the ticket counter 10 minutes before the departure of the train at the latest. Your wheelchair will then be carried onto the train by Mobilift, available in 150 stations in Switzerland.
Bus
The buses run by Transports Publics Fribourgeois (TPF) are equipped with a system facilitating access for people with reduced mobility. For further information, please contact the TPF at the following number: +41 (0)26 351 02 00.
SOS-assistance at the stationare
Passengers needing special assistance at the station can benefit from Compagna, a voluntary service present at nearly all large stations. Assistance includes the accompaniment of the traveller to the station platform or a taxi. For a reasonable fee it is also possible to have someone accompanying you on the train.
