The Bénichon is a centuries-old, traditional celebration in Fribourg. Celebrated mainly in autumn, the Bénichon marks the end of the harvest and the cattles’ descent from the mountain pastures. The hearty meal can last up to 6 hours!
Nowadays, the Bénichon is celebrated mainly with family or friends. The Bénichon Season brings this tradition closer to our guests and supports local actors like butcheries, bakeries and restaurants.
The Bénichon is organized in Fribourg from the end of August to mid-November, following the traditional regional calendar. During this period, many partner restaurants are offering the Bénichon menu.
Partner restaurants for the 2025 Bénichon Season will be announced in summer 2025.
