This stage is marked by a series of transitions: crossing the Röstigraben, passing from the Bernese Mittelland to the Fribourg Pre-Alps and from hilly to mountainous landscapes.
Starting from the rural Bernese village of Guggisberg, you drop down to the hamlet of Laubbach. Walk across pastures and forests until you reach Zollhaus, which not only marks the gateway to the canton of Fribourg but also the confluence of the two Sense rivers: the cold Sense and the warm Sense. Take the bucolic path alongside the warm Sense. The path then climbs pleasantly via the Geissalp stone bridge, until you arrive in the hamlet of Liechtena. Once you have passed through the hamlets of Rohr, Chretza and Burstera, the valley opens out and offers views of the peaks surrounding the Schwarzsee: the Kaiseregg, the Spitzflue and the Recardets. The name Schwarzsee (Black Lake) comes from the dark reflections of the forests around the lake. The tourist development of Schwarzsee began in 1784, with the construction of a centre offering spa treatments.
Tip: the charming resort of Schwarzsee is an idyllic setting and offers a wide range of outdoor activities for sports enthusiasts and families. Food lovers will also find all kinds of tasty recipes and local specialities.
