Carnival or Mardi Gras – wild and fun

¡Los carnavales, siempre tan festivos! 

Hace 56 años, el Carnaval des Bolzes hace temblar los muros de la Basse-Ville de Friburgo. Coloridos desfiles, trajes extravagantes y las disparatadas bandas Guggenmusik: ¡todas las locuras carnavalescas están permitidas! La muchedumbre espera el mejor momento: cuando el Rababou será quemado bajo los abucheos de los espectadores. Del sábado 9 al martes 13 de febrero de 2024. 

Desde 1950, el delirio se apodera de Murten. Desde 1965, tras un proceso arbitrario, el pequeño burgués es condenado y quemado en nombre del invierno y de los incidentes de todo tipo de los últimos doce meses. Las celebraciones de carnaval en Murten tendrán lugar del viernes 1 al lunes 4 de marzo de 2024. 

También hay desfiles festivos e increíbles actividades carnavalescas en otras ciudades del cantón como Broc, Romont y Estavayer-le-Lac. Uno de los eventos populares, los Brandons de Payerne, se celebrará del 16 al 19 de febrero de 2024.

© Carnaval des Bolzes

The Bolz Carnival has been celebrated in Fribourg’s Old Town for 56 years. The tradition is upheld with colourful processions, costumes, marching carnival bands and razzmatazz in the bars and restaurants in the Old Town. The Carnival culminates in the spectacular burning of the giant Rababou. The next edition of the Bolz Carnival will be held from Friday, 9 to Tuesday, 13 February 2024.  

The crazy days and nights are also celebrated in Murten. The ‘Mardi Gras Society’ was established in 1950 to ensure that the Carnival adheres to the obligatory traditions. There are processions, marching carnival bands, fancy dress balls and ditties. Since 1965, it has been customary to put on trial the ‘Füdlibürger’ (petty bourgeois), who represents the winter, accusing him of everything that has gone wrong over the past 12 months before burning him. The Carnival in Murten will take place from Friday, 1 to Monday, 4 March 2024.  

There are also festive parades and crazy carnival activities in other Fribourg towns such as Broc, Romont and Estavayer-le-Lac. Things get wild in Payerne from 16 to 19 February 2024.
