The chapel at the Evi gorges is brand new: rebuilt following a fire in 2000, it had already undergone a great many vicissitudes and transformations.
With a wooden shingle roof and a wooden covered courtyard closed with crossed slats, the Evi chapel is very elegant. A 19th century statue of the Virgin Mary and an altar escaped the fire, which destroyed the building in one night in July 2000. Much-loved by the local people, it was rebuilt identically.
The simple oratory intended to protect walkers in the narrowest passage of the Marive gorges, and the most dangerous in winter, was transformed into a chapel in 1863. Its final appearance dates from 1947.
It is said that, not long after the chapel was built, miraculous healings were observed there. It became a popular site of pilgrimage.
