During the month of June 2026, the show “1876 – L'incendie” (1876 – The Fire) will be presented in Albeuve, a historical and musical epic about the fire that destroyed the entire village on July 20, 1876.
A major project, led by an organizing committee, multiple commissions, and numerous volunteers. An entire village and valley are invited to remember.
On Thursday, July 20, 1876, the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m., near the chimney of the bakery. An hour later, the entire village was ablaze. By the end of that tragic day, the toll was two dead, 165 buildings burned to the ground, and 450 people left homeless, having lost everything. The tragedy immediately sparked a wave of emotion and solidarity not only in the canton of Fribourg but throughout Switzerland.
