The May Choir was founded in May 1998 under the leadership of its director Nicolas Wyssmueller. It is made up of twenty singers from the southern part of the canton.
His repertoire ranges from the Renaissance (Tomás Luis Victoria, Diogo Dias Melgas, Thomas Tallis, ...) to the contemporary period (John Tavener, Francis Poulenc, Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo, etc.), including the Romantics (César Franck, Gabriel Fauré, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Josef Rheinberger, etc.) and the treasures of Gregorian chant.
The May Choir regularly sings with an orchestra, notably performing cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Handel's Dettingen Te Deum, Johann Adolf Hasse's Miserere, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in 2013 for its fifteenth anniversary. During its traditional Good Friday morning concerts, the May Choir has introduced listeners to the diverse worlds of Gregorio Allegri (Miserere), Francesco Cavalli (Missa pro defunctis), Henry Purcell (Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary), Jan Dismas Zelenka (Miserere, Tenebrae Responsories), Dietrich Buxtehude (Membra Jesu Nostri), Charles Gounod (The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross), and Johann Sebastian Bach (Jesu meine Freude).
