The Orchestre de la Ville de Bulle is an amateur string orchestra that brings together young and older musicians from across the canton of Fribourg who share a passion for music.
Founded in 1933 by Raphaël Radraux and Louis Pasquier, the Bulle “symphony” orchestra initially consisted of strings and a piano. In 1943, the orchestra was admitted as an official society and Emile Lattion took over the reins until the arrival in 1964 of Charles Baldinger, to whom the OVB owes much of its musical richness.
Major festivals such as Pauvre Jacques and the Pastorale Gruérienne by Carlo Boller, or Grevire by Abbé Joseph Bovet, theatrical and choral collaborations, symphonic works, and major music events in Bulle (Schubertiades, Mozart Music Festivals, Schumann, Bach, etc.) are a testament to the intense musical activity of the OVB during its eighty years of existence.
Since 1999, the OVB has continued its philosophy of performing well-known and lesser-known works from the classical repertoire with its current musical director, Olivier Murith.
