For some time, schoolteacher Peter Aeby in Düdingen had been thinking about ways to brighten up various celebrations, especially those in the village, by bringing more joy and color to them. True to the saying “nothing ventured, nothing gained,” he set to work. At his suggestion, the first traditional costumes for weekdays were made at the Düdingen domestic science school during the winter of 1933-1934. Later, the Sunday costume was modernized. In 1934, Peter Aeby created the first organized folk singing group, made up of ten young girls.
This group performed jointly with the Düdingen music society. This collaboration gave rise to folk dancing and the orchestra, which became an integral part of the group. Very popular with the residents of Düdingen, the folk singing group brought color and joy to village life. In 1944, the first folk costume festival was organized. This tradition continued for many years.
Towards the end of the 1960s, the group experienced significant growth. The need for more focused activities, increased information, and a new style of dance necessitated the creation of a larger organization. In 1967, a board of directors was elected and Paul Zbinden was appointed as the first president. A couple of dance teachers were also chosen.
