Explore regional route 78, the “Fribourg Pre-Alps Trail”. Split into five stages, the “Fribourg Pre-Alps Trail” takes you from the town of Fribourg to Schwarzsee, then through La Gruyère, below the Gastlosen mountain chain to the Pays-d'Enhaut, arriving at the Château d'Oex, the Eldorado of hot-air ballooning.
The third stage of the trail is the first in mountainous terrain. It passes over a pass on the edge of the Röstigraben.
From the Schwarzsee, follow the right bank of the lake (on the Kaiseregg side) and climb towards the magnificent La Brecca valley. The La Brecca valley (or Breccaschlund in German) is known for its flora and fauna and is listed on the Federal Inventory of Landscapes. A unique landscape of wooded pastures, characteristic of a former funnel-shaped glacial valley, morainic ridges or karstic formations, it has also retained its alpine architectural heritage. The valley is relatively well protected from disturbance from vehicles. With any luck, you will see chamois on the mountainsides around you. The same applies to the flora, most of which are protected. The path climbs steeply up the mountain beneath the summit of the Spitzflue, up to the Stierenritz alpine pasture (Pt 1416). Continue towards the Euschelpass, a pass situated at an altitude of 1567m that bears the traces of ancient glacial formations. The descent towards Jaun begins as you pass the Ritzli alpine hut and offers a magnificent view. Jaun is the only German-speaking village in the La Gruyère district. This stems from the fact that the region was populated during the Reformation by Bernese Catholics from the neighbouring Simmenthal. Remember to visit the cemetery with its carved wooden crosses.
