Feast of St. Nicholas

Students at St. Michael College in Fribourg have been organising the St. Nicholas Festival since 1906. It takes place on the first weekend in December, from 6 to 8 December in 2024.

The festival kicks off on Friday with a small procession between St. Michael College and the Temple, where music and texts on the themes of freedom, migration and hope will be presented. After a festive market, at 5.00 pm on Saturday it’s time for the procession of St. Nicholas on his donkey, accompanied by his helpers and torch bearers. In a critical speech interspersed with irony from the steps of the cathedral, he looks back on the past year. The day ends with a solemn mass. On Sunday, the family day rounds off the festivities with various activities for young and old.
