This fair takes place every year on the Monday of the Federal Fast (Jeûne fédéral). It’s the day when the sheeps are brought down to the village to be sold, after several months high up on the mountainsides.
For more than four centuries, Jaun has been the scene of the sheep fair, an age-old tradition that marks the end of the summer season. This event, which takes place on the Monday following the Swiss National Fast, attracts crowds of locals and visitors from far and wide. The autumn market, with its more than 50 stalls, becomes a favourite meeting place for locals, shepherds and the curious.
From 9:00 : arrival of sheep and goats, various stalls and folk music.
Local restaurants offer a festive atmosphere, with folk groups providing the evening's entertainment.
