The Sainte-Agathe Chapel in Pringy (1811) houses a remarkable abstract stained-glass window by Alfred Manessier (1990): a unique marriage of religious heritage and modern art, nestled in the Gruyère landscape. A place of contemplation where light becomes art.
This modest building, dating from 1811, is dedicated to Saint Agatha, a Christian martyr venerated since ancient times. Its roots lie further up the road to Moléson, where an oratory dedicated to Saint Agatha was built in 1723 to ask for her protection against floods and fires.
This chapel has one unique feature: it houses a stained-glass window created in 1990 by the abstract glass painter Alfred Manessier (1911-1993). This French artist, one of the masters of non-figurative art, turned his attention to creating stained-glass windows for religious buildings in 1947. The stained glass window in Pringy is part of this approach and offers an unexpected dialogue between religious tradition and contemporary abstraction.
