"Désalpe" is the best-known of all traditional mountain festivities.
The Desalpe is the descent of the herds into the valley after more than four months in the alpine pastures. The jewel of Charmey, the Desalpe festival has gained an international reputation over the years. Lovers of tradition and authenticity will find an unmissable event every last Saturday in September. Adorned with colourful bouquets, the cows return to the valley with a joyful jingling of bells. This Rindyà (a dialect term meaning "descent from the pastures") reflects the traditions of mountain dwellers and ensures their preservation.
