The Cheval Blanc still houses a restaurant and accommodation today.
Named “L’Epée couronnée” (“The Crowned Sword”), this inn was used in 1781 as a meeting place for the insurgent Nicolas Chenaux and his supporters. After the failure of the revolt against Fribourg, the emblem was burnt in public. To reopen, the inn was renamed “Cheval Blanc” (“White Horse”). Look and you will see that the laurel-crowned sword is still pointing in the direction of Fribourg!
