Cheese-making is a centuries-old tradition in Gruyère and firmly rooted in the heritage. Immerse yourself in a walk with a historic feel.
This circular walk links La Maison du Gruyère, demonstration cheese-dairy, in Pringy, to the alpine cheese dairy in Moléson-sur-Gruyères. You may be surprised by the difference in height along the route, as the climb towards the resort via the mountain pastures is steeper than it appears in places. Traditional production of Gruyère d’Alpage AOP and Vacherin Fribourgeois d’Alpage AOP cheeses is no longer as widespread as it was in the past, with just a few dozen families still making it.
Start by walking through Pringy, towards La Loue. From there, you will walk through the pastures, aiming for the Moléson. Once you reach the resort, you can admire the work of the armailli (shepherds) at the alpine cheese dairy during the summer. As you leave the village, take the path to your right and climb the short distance to Les Reybes Devant. Stop at the Alpine restaurant Les Mongerons to enjoy the view over the Gruyères Castle, then enter the forest to walk back to Pringy and make the most of the shade from the trees.
Tip: A visit to the Town of Gruyères and its castle are worth a detour at the end of your walk.
