Two nights and three days in the heart of nature await you! This itinerary is designed for hikers accustomed to steep and technical trails. Some sections can be challenging.
Are you a lover of wide-open spaces? Looking for a multi-day hike? This itinerary is made for you! Embark on a three-day trek through the Fribourg Pre-Alps.
DAY 1
The trek begins in Jaun, the only German-speaking village in the Gruyère region. This first stretch takes you to the Chalet du Soldat, nestled at the foot of the Gastlosen. This famous mountain range—sometimes called the Swiss Dolomites—rises majestically along the trail.
Upon arrival at Chalet du Soldat, you can take in the stunning surroundings and admire the sunset over the mountain amphitheater. This historic lodge offers a warm meal and a peaceful first night’s rest, surrounded by the inspiring calm of nature.

DAY 2
The second day takes you to the Vanil Noir Nature Reserve. The goal: reach the Cabane des Marindes via Petit Mont and Gros Mont. This former alpine chalet, now a mountain shelter, is tucked away in the Vallon des Morteys, at the foot of Vanil Noir, the highest peak in Fribourg.
This peaceful haven is the perfect place to take in the beauty of the untouched wilderness. The rich flora of the Pre-Alps unfolds before your eyes, and with a bit of luck—and silence—you might spot local wildlife, including marmots and ibex, which rule over this rugged land.

DAY 3
On the third day, hikers follow the slopes of Vanil Noir. More technical than the previous days, this section requires sure footing and leads to the Col de Bounavaletta, which overlooks Intyamon. After an optional break at Cabane de Bounavaux, where refreshments are available, the trail gradually descends into the valley, returning to civilization in Grandvillard. This charming village offers a rural architectural walking tour, providing a cultural touch to conclude your trek.
